Rune Hunting
We need runes, more runes, and even more runes -- runes of all levels.
We need runes to make runewords.
Some rune hunting facts
- Runes are hard to find
- The chance of a rune drop is small, small, small.
- Rune drops are not effected by magic find percentate. That means it does not
matter how much mf your character has, nor does it matter how much he does not have. No effect. So.... this means you can wear your best survival and killing gear.
- The best runes drop in hell.
- The best runes drop in hell from monsters that are a pain in the rear to kill.
- Runes drop everywhere. Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Runes drop everywhere.
To start with, find monsters that you can kill. Kill them. Be observant and look for drops.
A good place to hunt is Countess runs (Forgotten Temple in Blash Marsh). However, do not fixate on just getting to Countess. Turns out some of the minions on the way have good chance of rune drops.
Another good place to hunt is Act 3. There you can find high concentrations of creatures to kill. You can do this in normal, nm, and hell -- usually the higher the level the better. However, this is not always true. For example, if one is looking for Night Smoke (which Gorebagg character needs btw) you will have better luck in Act 4 normal then in nm or hell. This means that a character which might be considered too weak to do anything productive in hell can still be used to find one of the most wanted items. Good news for our newbies that want to help.
